JOIN OUR TEACHING TEAM
Join the team behind a growing Southampton music community and help students discover how much they can enjoy making music.
Benana Music Studio is always interested in hearing from talented, friendly musicians who genuinely enjoy working with people.
We may not always be advertising for a particular instrument, but if you think you would be a great fit for Benana, we would still love to hear from you.
Come in, teach music, and focus on your students.
We look after the wider studio infrastructure around the lessons so our teachers can concentrate on creating great musical experiences.
That's absolutely fine. We welcome speculative applications throughout the year and are always happy to hear from excellent musicians who could be a strong fit for Benana.
A Creative Place to Teach, Collaborate & Grow
Be part of a friendly music-school environment that values individuality, creativity and collaboration — while giving you the support to focus on teaching.

Teach your students from Benana’s established studio locations, with suitable teaching spaces and equipment available depending on the instrument and site.
Flexible Working
Teaching arrangements can be built around teacher availability, student demand and the locations that make sense for the role.
Creative Culture
Be part of a friendly, collaborative team of musicians and educators who care about creativity, individuality and making music enjoyable.
Admin Support
Benana supports the practical side of running lessons, including student bookings, communication and the wider studio operation.
Meaningful Work
Help students build confidence, develop their musicianship and discover a lasting enjoyment of music.
What We Look For in a Benana Teacher
Musical ability matters, but being a great teacher is about much more than playing the right notes.
Someone students can feel comfortable with and genuinely enjoy learning from.
You should be confident and capable on your instrument or voice and passionate about music.
Our students have different goals, personalities and ways of learning. We value teachers who can adapt rather than teach everybody in exactly the same way.
Students depend on consistency, good communication and teachers who take their commitments seriously.
Teachers need to communicate positively with students, parents and the Benana team.
Working responsibly with children, young people and adults is an essential part of the role.
You Don't Need to Have Been Teaching for Years
Previous teaching experience can be helpful, but it isn't the only thing we look at.
Newer to Teaching?
We are happy to hear from strong musicians who may be newer to teaching if they have the personality, reliability, musical ability and attitude we are looking for.
Experienced Teacher?
If you already teach, perform or work professionally in music, we'd love to understand your background, musical strengths and what kind of students you most enjoy working with.
What Happens When You Apply?
We want to get to know the musician and the person behind the CV.
Send Your Application
Email us your CV and a short introduction telling us about yourself and what you teach.
Show Us Your Music
Include video or audio of you playing or singing, plus relevant music, website or social-media links.
First Interview
If your application looks like a possible match, we'll invite you for an initial conversation.
Second Stage
Suitable candidates progress to a second-stage interview so we can explore the fit in more detail.
Checks & References
Before teaching, the required references and safeguarding checks are completed.
Working Responsibly With Students
Benana teachers work on a self-employed basis and are expected to maintain high standards of reliability, professional conduct and safeguarding.
All teachers working with children are subject to the appropriate Enhanced DBS and barred-list checks for their role.
References form part of the recruitment process, and successful applicants are expected to follow Benana's safeguarding and professional expectations while teaching through the studio.
Work Experience or Volunteering?
We have previously welcomed people to Benana for work experience and volunteering opportunities.
If you're interested, email us and tell us a little about yourself, your interests, the skills you already have and what you would like to gain from the experience.
Where possible, we'll look at whether there is a suitable opportunity across music, events, studio support, administration or other areas of Benana.
We'd Love to Hear From You
You don't need to wait for us to advertise your instrument. If you're a strong musician, enjoy working with people and think the Benana approach sounds like a good fit, send us an application.
